New Year, New Adventures and New Games at The Crystal Maze LIVE Experience!

Waaaaay back at the beginning of 2020BC (you know– Before COVID), we hosted a competition for one Crystal Maze fan to design their own game that would be built and introduced to the London Maze. That lucky winning fan was Ian Hansford, 34 from Lincolnshire who’s created the game called Keys of Centeotl.

Fast forward to 2021 and we’re kicking off 2022 with not one, not two but three new games at The Crystal Maze LIVE Experience.

Ian’s winning game will be based in the Aztec zone in the London Maze, offering teams a chance to win their crystal by finding the correct key for inserting into pillared columns and releasing the Crystal. A 3-minute mental game, guests may have the chance to play the game from the 8th January during their visit.

So what is Centeotl I hear you ask? Well, it was the name of the ancient Aztec God of Corn (or Maize). A Maize game in the Maze? Genius! As a keen puzzle fan, Ian designed the game based off a game from the original 90’s TV show and worked with the Crystal Maze production team on how the game should work and look.

Having visited the Manchester Maze five times, Ian was thrilled to see visit London and see his game:

“It was such an honour to be chosen as the winner of the competition. I’ve always loved puzzles and my friends and I used to pretend that we were on the Crystal Maze TV show when we were younger. Back then my favourite zone was always the Aztec zone, so when designing my game, I knew that was where I wanted my game to be set. When I found out that there was an Aztec God of maize I knew that was the perfect character to base my game around. The God of maize in the Crystal Maze!”

In addition to the winning game, London will also host a new game in its Industrial zone; Crossword where guests must race against the clock to build the missing word on both sides of the board.

And if that wasn’t enough, a new game called Wobbleboard will be installed in both the London and Manchester mazes. Based on a game seen in the latest series of The Crystal Maze on Channel 4 with Richard Ayoade as host, teams will need to navigate balls down the precariously balanced board to be in with the chance of grabbing the crystal, although it’s not as easy as it sounds! The London game even features the original board from the TV show.

The new London games will be available to play from Saturday 8th January, whilst the additional Manchester game will be available to play from the 15th of January. Teams of up to 8 can participate at a time, and tickets are available to book here now – so why not embark on a new adventure this year?

Please note: it is not guaranteed that all games will be played by all teams.
